16 Jun 2022

You could say it’s sustainability, or even a quality-focused design philosophy. Either way, we’re excited to introduce Himolla furniture onto our floors.

Himolla is headquartered in Germany (with another factory in Hungary) where they create a line of sofas and chairs while keeping you and the environment in mind. Their collection has something for everyone to enjoy with customizable options, adjustable features, and a selection of fabrics and leathers.

Functional design, quality-made furniture

Through quality-control and the use of reliable materials, Himolla has continuously worked to improve the functionality and design of their furniture.

Himolla has an in-house lab (known as their “torture chamber”) where they look at quality, durability, and longevity. Before anything gets sent to production, they perform numerous kinds of tests on upholstery; electronic components; seat padding; fittings; frames; and non-moving, loading-bearing parts to make sure every element lives up to their standards.

Here are a couple of ways Himolla ensures quality construction of their furniture:

  • They use a metal spring suspension system (for comfort and longevity) in favor of something like rubber webbing, which would wear over time and cause seats to sag.

  • They use cold-cured molded foam in their seating. The foam is set in a mold instead of being cut into pieces and glued together, which helps to prevent friction and breakage points that would eventually cause it to fall apart.

When it comes to design, Himolla strives for a chic appearance while keeping comfort at top of mind so you always have a place to retreat to and unwind. A piece like their Stratus 2-Seat Power Sofa reclines manually or electrically and allows you to position your legs higher than your heart, putting you in a state of complete relaxation.

Good for the environment: Himolla’s sustainability story

With sustainability as one of our own core values, we appreciate Himolla’s mission around eco-friendly operations and manufacturing. They consider the actions of their staff and the steps in their production processes and look at how those behaviors affect our relationship with the earth.

So, what do their efforts look like?

  • Himolla recycles wood, foam, and plastic waste.

  • Their facility is 97% solar powered.

  • They use locally-harvested wood.

  • All stains and lacquers are water-based and tested for environmental safety.

  • All foams are hygienic and free of formaldehyde, FCs, and CFCs.

Because of their dedication to the health and safety of the environment as well as their customers and staff, they were awarded Germany’s Blue Angel certification.
