Buzz - Well I’m
totally bummed out! Shutting down
my
hometown newspaper the Boston Globe? Ugh, I hope it doesn’t
happen.
Ok, so I guess I’m one of those people living in the
dark ages; still likes to sit down with the paper and for a few minutes,
get lost in what’s happening in the world, the state, the city, what
new movies are worth seeing, new places to eat (my favorite), fashion, home
design, where to go for cheap (least favorite). I don’t like
to read it online, I prefer the real McCoy, you can take it with you to your
favorite and comfortable reading places (leave it to your imagination where
that could be).
I used to love devising new ways to fold and read the Globe
on crowded subways. I loved reading it on Sunday mornings with my husband
and my kids, Erica and Max (that is when they finally started
getting up before noon). We all had our favorite sections and would just
shout out what was of interest to each of us. Well, since the kids
are out of the house it’s just Richard and I and we’re now sharing
ourselves through Skype, Facebook, Twitter, My Space, Linked In, Craigslist,
etc.
It all happened so fast, I got a cell phone and thought
it was SO cool, and the technology really made advances in society… now
it’s ok to be late all the time, just call ahead and you get a
free pass. It’s ok to be talking to your friend in the street and then,
oops, chopped liver - they answer another call. Time progressed and
then came MySpace, which became the rage for communication for all those
who don’t remember when cell phones were invented, they just were always
there, right? Hey, even I have a Facebook page. I don’t really know
how to use it, but I’m trying. I first created it when my son
was still in college and he immediately found me, warned his sister and they
told me it was a really bad idea. Apparently they got over it quick because
I became inundated with all their friends wanting to be my friend, and of
course so many people you never knew their last name and you wonder who are
these people and why do they want to be my friend? This is where you
communicate with everyone, no need for cell phones… just go to their
wall, not much on my wall, going to call it the “wailing wall”.
The latest thing to come around is Twitter, and I know
some
people who are so addicted I’m thinking
of opening a Twitter rehab center because I can see that
it’s going to be in demand. Twitters happen so fast
and constant you can’t take a break or you lose your
twitter “status”
in the twitter world. People don’t want to leave their post for more
than a few seconds or their stature could go down, see what I am saying?
Going off the deep end! I can have the facility operational in a jiffy and
the only way anyone can get any news whatsoever is going to be from a Newspaper…………so
there!
