April Buzz
April Buzz - “Made
for Real Life” is a tagline we used at Circle Furniture for years.Awhile
back we decided to heed the advice of some new marketing gurus and we ditched
the tagline. We were going to be “cutting edge”.
We were told “Made For Real Life” didn’t mean anything
to anyone. Maybe, maybe not. You decide.
Where did we come up with “Made For Real Life”? Years
ago we were sitting around brainstorming, trying to figure out how to describe
quality furniture. I remember getting up on a solid, thick, oak coffee table
and doing a little dance. “Voila” I screamed, “it can hold
up to dance parties”. ***Huge disclaimer here: Of course it can
stand up to any dance party, but if you’re wearing stilettos you will
scratch the table for sure!
Furniture has evolved a lot since that first dance and there
are a lot of products in the marketplace that look GREAT and you may even
think they’re made out of wood. Yah, right. Believe it or not I have
cut some of these pieces in half and what’s inside? Actual paper! Several
years ago, furniture manufacturing moved overseas and the imports dropped
prices like we’ve never seen. So now we are competing in a crazy market
with prices so low, you have to dance on tables (no, not a table dance) to
get some attention.
So,
what do we really mean…Made For Real Life? And, whose life are we
talking about? No, we’re not jet-setting off to Malawi to adopt another
baby to keep up with Brangelina. We all have different past experiences,
points of view and even that dreaded baggage! But we can all agree on one
thing. If we’re going to spend our hard-earned money on something that
will make our lives easier and more comfortable we want quality. We should
demand quality. We need a sofa that can stand up to our three year-old twins.
We need a dining table that can double as a work space for our teenagers
struggling through Algebra 2. We need a recliner with fabric that our chocolate
lab can’t destroy.
That’s real life.
We are you. We have kids, nieces, nephews and dogs that
could trash our furniture at any given moment. We don’t want that.
We make our furniture out of real, solid products that won’t disappoint
you. I’m pretty proud of that.
Ok, so I’m a little more filled-out (no comments from
the peanut gallery) than I was 20 years ago but I’m sure that thick,
solid, oak table would still hold me for a jig. Wait……… I
just went over and did a little jig and YES! it still can handle the “Dancing
Queen”.
